Exclusive Tutoring for Select Students

Providing private tutoring in person or online, Owen Pollock founded Walden Pond Tutoring as the premier source of test prep and admissions coaching for students seeking to matriculate at top schools.

After 10 years spent successfully tutoring with a national company, Owen opened his own Boston-based tutoring company in 2020 to help students achieve measurable results.

Instilling competency in our students is expected.

Though competency often leads to positive results, it’s how we cultivate quiet academic confidence in each student that makes the difference.

Here is a bit of what to expect when working with Walden Pond Tutoring:

Success is all part of the plan

An Ivy League acceptance, a 300+ point increase on the SAT, acing the ISEE — whatever the objective, we will implement a concrete plan to help students reach their goals.

There’s not just one way to learn

We take traditional tutoring methods and break those down to be uniquely different for each student’s learning style and individual academic goals.

Motivation is key

By incorporating students’ extracurricular interests into lessons, the student becomes fully engaged in learning and remains motivated to succeed.

Learning happens anywhere

While we may be based in Boston, everything we tutor in person can just as easily be done online as well, allowing students to work from anywhere, any time of the year — be that at home, vacation house or dormitory.

Born in Santa Cruz and raised in Santa Monica, Owen attended Windward School, a leading college preparatory school in Los Angeles. Owen was salutatorian of his class and student body president. It was at Windward that he was inspired to achieve excellence and worked toward his goal of matriculating at a prestigious college in New England. Despite the challenges of the college admissions process, Owen enrolled at Wesleyan University and then transferred to Amherst College after his sophomore year. He graduated in 2000 with a degree in European Studies, an interdisciplinary major combining history, literature and philosophy with a foreign language and study abroad requirement.

Initially, Owen followed his passion for politics to work as a field organizer on campaigns throughout the country. Then in 2009, he accepted a job as a political lobbyist at one of the premier firms in Boston, Rasky Partners. Not feeling fulfilled in his career, Owen was lucky enough to be introduced to the world of elite private tutoring through his mentor, Larry Rasky.

Knowing first-hand the struggle surrounding the college admissions process, I became interested in helping students meet their own academic goals of being accepted into the schools of their dreams.

Owen quickly realized that private tutoring was his calling. During his nearly 10 years experience working one-on-one with students, he also taught group SAT and ACT classes at top preparatory schools in the region, including Middlesex, Concord Academy and Belmont Hill. Combining his vast experience with personal insight, he decided to leave the tutoring firm he was working for and branch out on his own.

I launched my private tutoring business in 2020 to help parents fill in the gaps between hybrid and virtual school schedules and enable students to change the trajectory of their academic careers.

Outside of tutoring, he loves to travel and which has led him to visit 47 countries, from Argentina to Dubai, Guatemala to Japan, Paris and Senegal, and everywhere in between. Owen calls East Boston home, where he lives with his wife Merideth and their goldendoodle Pippa. He loves everything about New England, from its history and pastoral beauty, to its literary connections and, most importantly, its outstanding schools. For Owen, Boston is the perfect place to be a tutor. He also enjoys swimming any chance he can get, whether it’s a pool, ocean, lake, river, swimming hole, pond...well, you get the idea. Walden Pond in Concord Massachusetts is, in Owen’s opinion, perhaps the most perfect place on earth to swim.
